an Astanga and Restorative Yoga Retreat

Balance your energies with Senior Astanga teacher Sarah Vaughan and qualified Yoga Therapist / Yoga Teacher Becky Pell on this unforgettable yoga getaway at Vikasa! Develop and deepen your Astanga practice each morning supported by both teachers, then balance that dynamic energy each evening with Restorative yoga and meditation sessions to nurture the body, mind and spirit.

The day begins with optional dawn meditation as the sun rises over the ocean, followed by Astanga practice in our very own open-sided wooden shala. Nourish yourself with a delicious healthy brunch buffet in the balcony cafe as you gaze out over the exquisite water, and spend your days relaxing on the white sands of Silver Beach or by the infinity pool; having incredible Thai massages in the ocean breeze; or exploring this gem of an island with its temples, waterfalls and lush jungle. As the sun sets, return to our shala for a slower, therapeutic yoga practice, followed by a deeply restorative Yoga Nidra… before enjoying a nutritious dinner of beautiful fresh Thai food and juices. Then the evening is yours – you might find new treasures at a night market, indulge in an enticing cocktail, or simply float to bed to fall into a tranquil sleep to the sound of those ocean waves!

Beginners and advanced students alike are welcome as we will be a small group (max 20 spaces available) with two experienced teachers.

11th November – Arrival day.

We recommend arriving at Vikasa before 3pm to give yourself time to settle in and explore the beautiful retreat space.

4.30pm – We meet in our Shala for a welcome circle to celebrate the beginning of our retreat! Then we’ll stretch out from the journey with a special ‘post-flight’ practice, aimed at alleviating heavy legs and reversing any in-flight tightness. We’ll conclude with candle-gazing to stimulate the production of melatonin, to help ease jet-lag.

From 6.30pm – Head up to Vikasa Life Cafe (in the main communal area where you checked in) for a delicious dinner, served until 8.30pm.

SSarah Vaughanarah Vaughan practises and teaches at ‘The Yoga Hutch’, her studio in Surrey which she established in 2006. She began her astanga practice in 2000 at a busy time in her life with two small children and working as an architect. Yoga gave her the space and freedom to find her inner truthfulness and has had a daily astanga practice from the start. She teaches guided astanga classes and Mysore practice, and hosts a busy vibrant community of yogis within her beautiful space. She runs and hosts regular weekend workshops. Whilst being a dedicated astanga teacher she is also qualified to teach pregnancy yoga with many students who have practiced with her through their pregnancies and returned to a full practice in time. She also trains and mentors new teachers and slows everything down by teaching regular restorative and hatha classes.

Sarah originally trained with Brian Cooper at Union Yoga in Edinburgh in 2005 and is now a Senior Yoga Teacher registered with Yoga Alliance Professionals.

She has continued to learn from other teachers over the years, including David Swenson, Nadia Narain, Donna Farhi, David Keil, Matthew Sweeney and was honoured to practice with Sri K Pattabhi Jois when he was in London in 2006 and again with Sharat in 2015. Her current and lasting teacher is John Scott, and she is second series teacher training with him and Manju Jois this summer.

She continues to learn from her students and peers and her regular self practice is supported weekly with two wonderful teachers and friends Scott Johnson and Andy Gill of Stillpoint Yoga London.

Sarah’s teaching is watchful and compassionate. She teaches with an energy to inspire each person and with a strong focus on the intention of yoga as a healing practice.


Becky Pell
Since falling in love with music at an early age, I wanted to be a live sound engineer. In my 20’s I made that a reality, and I’ve been touring worldwide as a professional sound engineer with high-profile bands since 1995. Along the way I also fell in love with yoga, and after several years of practice I travelled to Bali to train as a teacher (YTT500), so that I could share yoga’s life-changing magic with others. Since then I have also qualified as an holistic life-coach, and after 2 years of training, graduated Yogacampus in London as a yoga therapist.

When I’m on the road with bands, I teach yoga and meditation to the artists and musicians I tour with. Between tours I lead workshops and retreats, and I see private clients for yoga therapy and holistic life-coaching sessions. I am a yoga ambassador for UK women’s active clothing brand Sweaty Betty, and I am a published author – I write for Yoga International, Om magazine,, The Stage and

I teach ‘juicy’ Vinyasa – my classes are rich with music, yoga philosophy, intention, symbolism and inspiration. I am also passionate about teaching restorative yoga and meditation. My music clients include Anastacia, Take That, Westlife, Kylie Minogue, A-ha, Muse and Natalie Imbruglia, and each year I take charge of sound on the Pyramid Stage at the world’s largest festival, Glastonbury.

Originally from England, I am now based in Brisbane, Australia. The unconventional and nomadic nature of my life means that I’ve learnt to get creative with my yoga practice, and it has made every aspect of my life easier. My passion is helping you to develop a ‘yoga toolkit’, to navigate your life’s journey with comfort and ease!

Sitting on your private balcony taking in spectacular sea views is what you will find yourself doing often during your stay in a Superior Bungalow. Superior Bungalows are spacious and feature a king size bed or twin share.

Beach Bungalow Standard
Provide the opportunity to sit and enjoy sea views and sunrises from your private balcony. Standard Bungalows feature a queen sized bed and direct beach access. Please note that standard beach bungalows are not available as 2 single beds.
