Vikasa Yoga Teachers
KOSTA MIACHIN, Founder of Vikasa Yoga.
“We can not do yoga – yoga is our natural state. What we can do is some exercises that will reveal to you where you are resisting that state”.
Every moment the reality is new, it is never the same. You cannot step in the same river twice. Life is constantly moving, changing. Only change is permanent, everything else is changing. Only change itself is not changing. That is the only truth, that is reality. So don’t live in the past, don’t worry about the future, just be in the present, and do what you have to do. Outer world is only a reflection of your inner world. Be happy, and others around you will be happy.
Konstantin ‘Kosta’ Miachin is the founder of yoga school called Vikasa, which means ‘evolution’ or spiritual growth. His vision is one of raising human consciousness and making the world a better place by spreading the message of love and peace. This mighty task is being accomplished at Vikasa yoga retreat by focusing on the study of yoga with an emphasis on holistic health, organic food and an inspiring environment that is conducive to personal transformation. Kosta’s passion for yoga blossomed in 2004 when he set out on his own journey of self discovery. This journey has taken him to the far reaches of the world, from remote Himalayan ashrams, to his initiation by a master monk in a sacred Sak-Yant ceremony in the North East of Thailand. Kosta has undergone extensive training and was certified with five different schools: Yoga 23, Sivananda Yoga, Mysore Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, Andiappan Yoga and Universal Yoga and maintains close ties to many other yoga schools around the world. The vision for Vikasa yoga was born on Koh Samui with Kosta’s realization that the deeper dimension of yoga is a spiritual journey and a conscious evolution of the individual. Seeing this as the ultimate human endeavor, he committed his life to supporting others on this path. With his wealth of knowledge and experience came the understanding that yoga is an ever evolving process and unfolding of one’s own nature. Thus the concept of yoga as a constant evolution was founded as ‘Vikasa: the evolution of yoga by Konstantin Miachin’.

Craig Procter has devoted his life and passion to yoga, having begun his journey 25 years ago. His spiritual practice began at age 12 when he was taught to meditate by his grandfather. He later began practicing yoga when he was 20. At this time, he discovered Ashtanga yoga with Robert Lucas, the first Ashtanga yoga practitioner in Australia. Craig’s studies have led him to various teachers around Australia and India including Sri K Pattabhi Jois and Sharat Rangaswamy. His Asana practice was refined with Shandor Remete and Simon Borg Oliver, who inspired him with intense and dynamic types of Iyengar practices. To experiment further, he also took classes with B.K.S. Iyengar and studied Pranayama with Shandor Remete and B.N.S Iyengar. For 18 years Craig taught yoga in Sydney at various schools including North Sydney Yoga, Yoga Mat, Life & Balance and Yoga Moves as one of Eileen Hall’s first assistant teachers. He also taught dancers at Bangarra and the Sydney Dance Company for 10 years. Craig’s practice advanced to a level where he began to gain employment as a contortionist, performing for 6 years nationally and internationally with the Australian Dance Theatre. In 1994 Craig began studying Vedic Astrology – Jyotish, which has given him valuable insights into the universal knowledge that is the backbone of the yogic principles of today. He has also studied Tantra in India, which is the foundation from which yoga has come from, and brings this knowledge into his teaching. Craig is able to provide an array of different types of yoga, from therapy to advanced, having walked such paths to a great depth while supporting students on their journey. This is really a wonderful opportunity to learn and share with a true master.

“Find your inner bliss by connecting within and opening your heart to your full spiritual potential.”
We often neglect our true needs and feelings by living in an externally focused world, working hard and running busy lives. When we stop and breathe for a moment and turn to our hearts to really feel our true being then we are able to shine a light outwards that was previously hidden beneath layers of our outer selves. Our inner self is far more wondrous and majestic than we ever thought possible and when we ‘glow’ and ‘shine’ the world loves us back. A happy, loving you creates magic and opens doors in your life that transforms and evolves moment by moment. Working at Vikasa gives me the opportunity to help open those doors and share my magic of how amazing life can be.

Yoga Teacher Training
Choosing the career of a yoga teacher is genuinely meaningful for society as a whole. Spreading yogic awareness and growing yogic communities helps us towards a more healthy exchange of goods and services. When people begin to value knowledge more than ‘things’, their behaviour tends to change. The hope is that as awareness increases, corporations that approach business with greedy, destructive ideals will lose custom. The more people bring yogic practices into their life, the more profoundly this effect will ripple across society. Businesses run on yogic principles heal society and include people regardless of their origin.
The 200 Hour Vikasa Yoga Teacher Training program is our Yoga Alliance certified, entry level course in what will be a multi-level training program to explore and embody more fully the 8 limbs of yoga while learning to lead others to those same states of consciousness. The nature of progress in the yogic practice is to become ever more inwardly aware and focused until you come in contact with your own pure being. A yogic life is realizing that the nature of this pure being is blissful, filled with unconditional love, peaceful, compassionate, and by witnessing it’s truth your external manifest world will reflect this true knowledge. Teaching helps this awakening as you see others go through the similar shifts, reaffirming what you have observed. This means that the experience of life becomes more joyful. It can occur in how the events of life unfold with pleasing outcomes due to more intuitive decisions and beliefs, or it can occur in the simple shift of consciousness which remains undisturbed during turbulent life events. With the launch of our Level 1 course we are establishing a natural foundation for yoga practices. It focuses intensely on purification practices, alignment in asana form, simple vinyasas, injury prevention and recovery, introduction to pranayama, meditation and so on. The Level 2 course will begin to focus more on the energetic implications of these practices in Vinyasa, pranayama, and concentration, and how to apply them more consciously for greater balance in life and access to deeper states of awareness in practice.
Your teacher training is an excellent investment of time and energy done in a way that allows full immersion and focus on learning. 200 hours adds up to a one month’s training. You also get a lot of contact hours with the teachers (indeed, you practically live with some of them). If that sounds like too much however there are lots of great ways to get deeper into yoga with experienced teachers. If Koh Samui or Vikasa Yoga really appeals to you, you can also check out other retreats or our yoga vacations. Vikasa also functions as an ordinary resort, taking guests and giving them a beautiful place to relax with a stunning natural environment, spa services, and one of the best restaurants on the island. Yoga retreats are held by both in-house Vikasa Yoga teachers and guests teachers who arrange for us to host their events.
From humble beginnings the Vikasa Yoga Retreat has constantly evolved, just as the name suggests. We invite you to be a part of that evolution.
By setting your intentions to become a yoga teacher, you will grow your own community – and students will follow. Sometimes they naturally become interested just by noticing your life change and wanting to know how you achieved it. For example, you’ll have people approach you and ask about classes just by seeing you perform stretching exercises in a public place. An aspect of dedicating yourself to yoga is not being shy or embarrassed to do things that maintain your practice. You might start teaching practices to your family and friends. You might volunteer classes at the park or for local organizations. Eventually you’ll start teaching two or three times per week. The more you live it the more it flows through you. Your disposition and social lifestyle will determine how you bring it to the world. You might have another job while sharing yoga as your passion while earning a supplemental income – or it could become your whole career. Some people even become yoga celebrities due to their dedication, talent for teaching, charisma, and amazing ability to put themselves out there every single day for their passion.
